Immigrant Workers Justice March Schedule: DuPage County

Volunteers, donations needed, Note: Contact Amy at 630 469-4931 or email dawn_198@msn.com  if you are willing to help with breakfast donations for Sunday morning, September 3rd , or volunteer your time. DAWN would also like to host a water station along  the DuPage portion of the route.  Of course, all  are welcome to join in at any time during this multi-day event.  Details here:

Over Labor Day weekend, thousands of immigrants and their allies will take part in a historic, multi-day, multi-city event, 55 mile trek: the Immigrant Worker Justice March. The 'March 10 Movement'
which helped bring together the massive mobilizations in Chicago this spring has along with popular consensus called for this March from Chicago's Chinatown neighborhood to US House Speaker Hastert's Office
in Batavia. The Immigrant Worker Justice March will protest the lack of real comprehensive
immigration reform, which would benefit our families and communities.

Friday Sept 1st Chicago: Opening rally in Chinatown at the corner of Archer and Wentworth in Chicago. The Walk will cover 11 miles ending with a meal and program at St. Francis of Rome Church, 14th and Austin in Cicero; total 9 miles

Saturday Sept. 2nd: Departing at 9:00 AM from St. Francis the march will cover 11 miles with a meal
and program at St. Borromeo Church, corner of Lake and Mannheim in Melrose Park. Heading west down Butterfield Road into DuPage County marching through Elmhurst to spend the night at The Islamic Foundation Mosque in Villa Park: total 11.4 miles

DuPage County

Marchers will continue on through Wheaton down Geneva Road to West Chicago where marchers will arrive at 6 PM (est) at St. Mary's Catholic Church to sleep and for dinner and a program in Downtown West Chicago at 140 N. Oakwood Ave:
total 14 miles

Monday Sept. 4th: Starting at St.Mary's Catholic Church at 9:00 AM marchers will march west down Geneva to Washington, from Washington marchers will turn south onto Fabayan Parkway
heading into Batavia, the march will turn off Fabayan west onto Washington Ave. for a rally
at the offices of  Dennis Hastert in downtown. Estimated time of arrival 12:30 PM: total 7 miles

Why are we marching 55 miles to Dennis Hastert's office in Batavia?
US Speaker Dennis Hastert is in a powerful position to either block or enact real comprehensive reform. We are asking him to pay attention to the contributions of undocumented immigrants, and to pass immigration reform that allows for legalization for all- no Sensenbrenner Bill, no second rate citizenship, no militarized border, family reunification and civil liberties protection.

What can my institution do?
We are asking organizations for the following
1. Publicly endorse and support the Immigrant Worker Justice Walk (please
email or call in your statement of support (630-545-0373 JUANYCUEVA@YAHOO.COM)
or 312/332-7360 x14 mazemun@icirr.org)
2. Help organize logistics for the Walk (e.g. providing water, food etc. for the marchers)
3. Help organize events along the route of the walk

Join with us! Note: Provisions for a morning meal Sunday morning in Villa Park at the Islamic Foundation
still need to be arranged. As well as helping with provisions (water will be necessary) for the marchers in DuPage.
Supporters can march a mile, a day or the whole
55 mile trek. The estimated number of marchers will be from 75-200, though the
DuPage part of the March is estimated to be on the lower end of the figure- the march numbers fluctuating considerably from neighborhood to neighborhood.
The support of local peace and justice groups and activists throughout Dupage County will be a determining factor in the overall success of this collective effort for basic human rights.
