Issues of social and economic, domestic and global justice are intertwined, complex, and crucial. Focusing on national economics on this night, we will watch a documentary that traces the history of U.S. monetary policy and banking in times of war and of non-combat, when the nation has been on the gold standard in whole, in part, and off it. We will examine the impetus for creation of the Fed and its ongoing roles in making money and loans, in setting interest and discount rates, and more -- and how these affect our daily lives. Following the film, economics professor Bob Barnes
and corporate attorney Bill Kovacs will provide an array of perspectives on our modern-day "Hamiltonian system" and "Jeffersonian possibilities". Straight and simple English definitions and insightful explanations will be provided by our experts.
